Red River Rose Society was very fortunate to have legendary rose enthusiast, Mike Shoup of Brenham, as the guest speaker at our November meeting. Mike, who is passionate about collecting, developing and propagating native Texas perennials brought a generous supply and variety for members to touch and smell during his presentation. Among them, to name a few, were some of his own developed beauties, Thomas Affleck, Doreen's Centennial, Jean Teresa and Belinda's Blush which members had the opportunity, after the presentation, to purchase for their own gardens. After his presentation Mike answered questions and provided information on making and using 'compost tea'.
President, Sue Abernathy informed members that the November meeting would be the last to be held at the Denison Public Library due to a change in the library's hours. Members provided information on possible meeting sites which will be checked and decided on at a later time.
Terry Irvin gave an update on the Christmas party scheduled for Saturday, December 10th at the Iron Post Republic Distillery, Denison from 6:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. Directions to the location will be sent at a later time. Members are asked to RSVP to Terry and confirm whether they can provide a side dish or dessert to accompany the ham provided by RRRS. There will be a gift exchange for those who want to participate with gifts costing no more than $20.00.
Hope you have a great Thanksgiving and also hope to see all of you at the Christmas party. -- Linda Spiller
